III. Kerala Backwater Houseboat Tour (KBHT) > Book this tour

The Kerala backwaters are a chain of brackish lagoons and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian Sea coast (known as the Malabar Coast) of Kerala state in southern India. The backwaters have a unique ecosystem: freshwater from the rivers meets the seawater from the Arabian Sea. Many unique species of aquatic life including crabs, frogs and water birds such as terns, kingfishers, darters and cormorants and turtles live in and alongside the backwaters. Palm trees, pandanus shrubs, various leafy plants and bushes grow alongside the backwaters, providing a green hue to the surrounding landscape.

The kettuvallams (Kerala houseboats) in the backwaters are one of the prominent tourist attractions in Kerala. The kettuvallams were traditionally used as grain barges, to transport the rice harvested in the fertile fields alongside the backwaters. Thatched roof covers over wooden hulls. The houseboats are of various patterns and can be hired as per the size of the family or visiting group. Ketuvallams are motorised but generally proceed at a slow speed for smooth travel. All ketuvallams have a generator and most bedrooms are air-conditioned.  Food is cooked on board by the accompanying staff – mostly having a flavour of Kerala.

V. Kochi Village Tour (KVT) > Book this tour

During this tour you will travel either in taxi or Tuk-Tuk to visit various villages to experience different livelyhood of the local people. The main occupation in village people is fishing. Groves of mangroves separate land from water providing a breeding ground for prawns, crabs, oysters and small fishes.Some of them are, Fish Farming / methods of catching. Some methods of catching them are highlighted – Chinese nets here are operated usually during the night. Electrical lighting is used to attract the fishes and prawns. Take the fishing rod and dangle the bait and wait for a good catch. Clams pulling, clams are shellfish found in the brackish waters. Ladies steam the clamshell to separate the meat from the shell. Casting of fish, where fishes are caught using a  conical shaped nets fitted with lead weight at the bottom, Fish groping, is done by ladies using fingers in water etc. Copra processing / coconut oil making: The coconut is cut into two pieces and dried for two- three days under sun. Seperate the copra (dried coconut) and extract coconut oil. Coir Making: Made from dried coconut husk. Fibre from husk is spun into strong threads used for making mats and handcrafts. Fishing Boat making: Experience the art of making handmade fishing boat is an absolute wonder. Woods and coir ropes are used for making these fishing boats

VI. Athirapally Waterfalls and Elephant Camp Tour (AWT) > Book this tour

Athirappilly Falls, is situated in  Chalakudy Taluk, Thrissur District of Kerala, India on the Chalakudy River, which originates from the upper reaches of the Western Ghats at the entrance to the Sholayar ranges. Athirappilly Falls is the largest waterfall in Kerala and is nicknamed “The Niagara of India”. Environmentalists claim that Athirappilly is a one-of its-kind riparian ecosystem in Kerala. Falling from a height of 80 feet, this is one of the largest waterfalls in the state. Many endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna are found in the forests of the Athirapilly-Vazhachal area.

The Kodanad Elephant Training Centre, which was moved to Abhayaranyam near Kaprikkad, is one of the largest elephant training centres in Kerala. It is flanked by the high ranges and is set near the southern banks of the Periyar River. Since the ban on capturing elephants was enforced, this place now serves as one of the premier elephant training centres in Kerala. Most of the animals from Kodanad elephant centre including the elephants have been recently rehabilitated to Kaprikkad, as the part of Ecotourism project named as Abhayaranyam, which is spread across 200 acres of natural forest.
